Knowing Texas Holdem Odds Makes a Big Difference

The poker variation that is the Texas holdem has become very popular both in casinos and online vesion. The rules of Texas holdem is simple, using two cards from your hand and five other cards, called community cards, you try and make the best poker hand possible. So how do you know Texas holdem odds?

What are odds? Let's take for example a horse and name it say, Tex. Now if Tex carries odds of 20 is to 1, this means that if Tex wins the race, then you win $20 for every $1 that you wagered. Texas holdem odds is similar to that. Let us say there is $20 in the pot. Of that $20, you have $5 in it. Thus your Texas holdem odds with regards to the pot is 4 is to 1. In order for you to have a break even game, you have to win that pot at least once every four rounds. So how did I come up with the 4-to-1 ration? Simple, just divide the total amount of the pot to the amount you played. So if the total pot is $40 and you play $5, then your Texas holdem odds is around 8-to-1.

So how do you use this Texas holdem odds to give you the advantage? By knowing the odds, you will be able to devise a strategy better on when to bet and how much to bet. Let's cite some examples.

Suppose your holding an Ace of Hearts and a King of Spades. The four cards so far laid on the table is the Queen of Hearts, the Eight of Diamonds, the Seven of Diamonds, and the Ten of Hearts. In this situation, you need either an Ace or a King to get a high pair. So what do we know so far?

1.First, you have seen six of the 52 cards. This means that you haven't seen 46 of the cards. 2.Second, you know that there are still Aces and Kings to be drawn.

Thus in our example, of the remaining 46 cards, six of those could likely give you a high pair. This means you are playing at the odds of 40 is to 6. But that's only for the pair. Suppose you want to go for the Straight? Looking at the cards, you only need a Jack to have an Ace high straight. Four cards could make you have a straight of the 46 cards left. 46 less 4 is 42. Thus the odds of you getting an Ace high straight is 4-to-42.

Admittedly it is rather small. But knowing the Texas holdem odds can help you decided better on how to go about the betting. In online casinos, calculating Texas holdem odds are easy since there are software available that do so. But if your playing on an actual table, then it would be pretty hard to do. However, knowing some of the common odds in Texas holdem could tilt the game in your favor.

Knowing Texas holdem odds is just one thing in winning game. But it certainly helps.
